Soraia Andersen
Bio:
Born into an immigrant, multi-generational poverty cycle, the artist becomes self-aware aged 4; now privy to the irrational nature of life, the artist walks a tortuous path towards her own self-actualisation. Through multiple attempted failures at finding a place of belonging - the artist finally finds peace, belonging and acceptance within and through her work.
Through states of flow, induced by the process of making, the artist overcomes her own painful reality by transmuting abstract concepts and feelings of despair, pain and anguish into colour.
Directly influenced by the creative process of Matisse’s cut-outs, the artist cuts, paints and glues mixed media onto canvas through an exhaustive process lasting 3-6 months in duration, resulting in a multilayered, multifaceted artwork.
