Natalie Alexander and Jonathan Vaz are London based artists currently working both collaboratively and individually. Their collaborations combine Natalie's precision drawn, and delicately painted buildings, with Jonathan's beautiful and strange, immaculately placed creations, giving the street a sense of life.
Individually, Jonathan's current series sees him working with abstract shape, starting from a truly random scribble on a page, that is transformed into something more, it is a search for what could have been, and what will be.
Coming from a digital background, in graphic design, he has taken this influence and found a refreshing way to express his concepts, in ink and paint, that starts with no boundaries and ends with total control over the image.
Typically theses 'shapes' will start in a sketchbook, no bigger then 5x5cm, working with pen the whole time, in this process all mistakes are welcome, and these images are then recreated on a much larger scale using a mix of mediums, including gouache, ink, markers, and screen printing.
Natalie's process starts in photography, and from there sees her creating landscapes, and single line portraits, separately, before bringing both together to create a final piece that juxtaposes precise lines, and delicately painted buildings, with heavy marker, and bold strokes of ink. Natalie's passion for street photography, and interest in human nature are strong influences in her work.
