Molly Behagg

Bio:

Molly uses photography to explore the process of making as a way of inhabiting unfamiliar settings. Originally trained in painting, her work intersects with photography, often using image collage techniques and historical photographic processes to explore the materiality of objects and architecture.

Drawing on imagery from museums, gardens and public spaces, her work deals with wider themes of isolation and memory, creating personal and fictional narratives as a way to connect disparate places within a transitional concept of home.

Her series 'Paper Sky' was made during a residency in rural Italy with Lumen Collective, and uses pieces of broken glass from an abandoned paper factory to link fragile architectural structures with the light from distant stars seen from a mountain top observatory.

Molly holds a First Class BA in Fine Art from Bath Spa University and an MA with distinction in Art and Design in Education from the Institute of Education. She has delivered numerous workshops and projects exploring alternative and historical photographic processes, including at Barbican, V&A, Stowe House and other institutions.

Molly is a Director of The Gate, a community photographic darkroom committed to widening participation in photography, based in South East London.
