Lawrence Crane

Bio:

Lawrence Francis Crane is a self taught, contemporary figurative artist based in London. Lawrence has developed his painting and drawing techniques inspired by the classical approach to draughtsmanship and oil painting. Within each work, Lawrence aims to connect narrative, stories, the interconnection with others and the world that they inhabit.

Figurative and Portraiture Art and their visual narrative has continued to fascinate Lawrence since he began to create images and drawings. In 2018 Lawrence spent 2 months researching and studying historical and contemporary Art around Europe.

With a fascination with its historical significance and significance to visual Art, Florence was the first destination. It is a city that uses tales of myths, legends and religion to explore the human condition while creating something that is truly a visual spectacle. Michanelago, Da Vinci, Botticelli and so many others, focused light and shadow to bring to life works which focused on the dichotomy of these within the human narrative. After Florence, Berlin was a place where Art was used in a different way. It was used in protest and defiance of trauma. Eventually it was used as an escape, as a celebration of freedom. Art was used to connect to the self and communicate to the other in a contemporary world. Amsterdam revealed a more personal approach to visual Art. It was private and personal yet still encompassing everything that had been seen on his journey.

Lawrence's work focuses on mental health, and his work is the response to his experiences on the impact that mental health has to our physical and emotional connection within ourselves and our connection to those that we are surrounded by.
