Sophie Dunster
Bio:
Sophie is a London based artist who focuses on creating pieces that start conversation. Each artwork is jam packed with meaning.
One of her latest artwork drops MORE BEES PLEASE upcycles antique botanical prints with a new lease of life to paint a brighter picture of Britain's biodiversity. Each one is completely unique and one of a kind. Sophie draws the bees, exposes them onto a silk screen and then individually places and prints each bee, one at a time. She then hand finishes every bee with 24ct gold leaf, creating that special, can't take your eyes off it piece. She finds happiness in giving something that's lost its place value again.
Sophie also works in a unique way with commissions. Her modern day 'Family Crest' takes on your favourite memories and values in a bespoke custom artwork. Book in a consultation via a call (or in person if you are London based) where you take a deep dive to consolidate your favourite memories and values. Sophie then finds the right objects to symbolise these feelings. The finalised 10 will be hand drawn, with any specific references sent over, so the artwork is as personal as possible. You can pick the style you would like it in, from signature pencil, textured paint, line drawing or watercolour; as well as colour palette and she will create the perfect artwork made just for you.
Sophie was raised living a low carbon lifestyle so sustainability has been drummed into her from an early age. But without being able to follow in her father's more scientific, mathematical footsteps, Sophie followed her strength – drawing – to help convey these issues. Starting out, she wanted to become a political artist but after discovering a world of silk screen printing, she realised her drawings could take on new forms in fabrics and different mediums as well as artwork to hang on the wall. She did an art foundation in Brighton then a degree in silk screen printing at Edinburgh College of Art. She founded Gung Ho, a sustainable lifestyle brand that has been inspiring change through fashion and interiors for over a decade.
